Privacy
Short version: there are no accounts, your game is saved on your own device, and the little we count is anonymous.
Last updated 18 October 2026. Plotjack is made by ThreeSided Studios ("we").
What stays on your device
Your saves, settings, unlocked words, streaks and stories are kept in your browser's local storage for plotjack.dev. They never leave your device unless you choose to share a story. Clearing your browser data for the site deletes them. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
What we count
- Popular edits. When you commit edits on a page, the game sends which word options were picked, as bare counts. That is how it can say "most readers changed this". There is no name, account or device ID attached.
- Today's Page scores. Your daily score is added to a count of scores for that day so you can see how you compare. Only the number is stored.
- Rate limiting. To stop abuse, we briefly derive a code from your IP address that changes every day. It is kept in memory only and is never written down.
Services that help run the game
- Cloudflare hosts the site and the game. Like any web host, it processes your IP address and basic request details to deliver pages and keep them secure.
- Bunny.net delivers the pictures, music and sound.
- Google Fonts provides the game's typefaces, so the game page asks Google's servers for them. This website itself hosts its own fonts.
- OpenAI helps Mortimer improvise when you make a combination of edits nobody has written. The game sends the original paragraph and the words you chose, which always come from the book. Nothing about you is sent.
- ElevenLabs turns Mortimer's lines into speech. The game sends the text of the line, which again only contains words from the book.
Generated retellings and voice clips are saved and reused for everyone who makes the same edits. They contain only book text and are not linked to you.
Sharing
A Your Story link carries your edits inside the link itself. Anyone you send it to can read your version of the story. It contains no personal information unless you put the link somewhere public with your name next to it.
Children
Plotjack's main books are written for ages 13 and up. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, of any age.
