Changelog

What changed in Plotjack, newest first. Mortimer was not consulted about any of it.

Start Fresh, and a straight answer on grown up content

You can start a book over now. Open Clippy's menu and choose Start Fresh (or tap Start fresh under a book on the shelf), pick this book or every book, and Mortimer wipes your progress. The words you have earned, your Case Files and your settings stay, and a new game starts with all your words.

A proper website, and the game moves to /play/

Plotjack has a real website now, with how to play, both books, an FAQ and a press kit. The game itself lives at plotjack.dev/play/. Old links, shared stories and saves all still work.

Book Two is finished, Chapter 9 and the epilogues

Book Two is finished. Chapter Nine, The Long Goodnight, takes Rex up a lighthouse at dawn, all four endings are in, and the last Book Report now grades the whole book.

Book Two, Chapters 7 and 8

Book Two, Chapters Seven and Eight: a laundromat at five in the morning, a confession over two sugars, and the last streetcar out to Lighthouse Point.

Book Two, Chapters 5 and 6, Case Files and new awards

Book Two, Chapters Five and Six, plus the Case Files. Your Bookmarks now earn Bronze, Silver and Gold across every game, and there are eight noir Commendations to hang on the wall. Mortimer also has two new levels of fed up: Twitchy and Fraught.

Book Two, Chapters 3 and 4

Book Two, Chapters Three and Four: the Blue Canary nightclub, a safe behind a painting and two sets of books. Some page prizes are now verbs.

Book Two, The Long Goodnight (And Also a Parrot)

Book Two, The Long Goodnight (And Also a Parrot), opens with its first two chapters. A hardboiled noir with rain, neon, a parrot who repeats things, and a new card, Purple Prose, for swapping similes.

All art, music and sound effects now come from Bunny

Pictures, music and sound now come from a faster delivery network, so pages load quicker wherever you are.

Accessibility and low-end phone pass

A big accessibility pass. Screen readers now announce every word, card and edit, pictures have descriptions, and a new Reduce effects switch keeps older phones smooth.

Every sound effect is now ElevenLabs

Every sound effect is new: paper, cardboard, pencil and page-turn noises made to match the cut-paper look. Also a kazoo.

Bunny CDN for media and paid generations, global $10/day cap

Mortimer's improvised retellings and voice lines are now kept for everyone who makes the same edits, so they arrive faster the second time.

Today's Page and popular-edit hints

New: Today's Page. One page, one goal and the same cards for everyone, every day, with a streak to keep. Pages also show which edits other readers picked most.

Swap a Verb, and more story flips

New card: Swap a Verb. Change what somebody does, and the story has to follow. More edits now flip the plot, too.

Book One runs to 11 chapters

Book One now runs to eleven chapters, with Lord Vexley, a bake-off, a forgotten birthday and, at last, the truth about Gary. Used cards now grey out, and the music switch behaves.

Plotjack v2 arrives

Plotjack v2 arrives: a bright cut-paper storybook with a new narrator, Mortimer Quill. Characters hold what you give them, adjectives change the pictures, Bookmarks pay Ink, and prize words join your hand.
